It’s not every day half a hundred judges assemble in one room, but that was the scene at the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis on March 5, as the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis hosted its ninth annual Judicial Retirement Dinner.
The event, also attended by about 150 individuals who, to date, are not on the bench, celebrated the careers of Supreme Court Judges Patricia Breckenridge and George Draper III, Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Judge Sherri Sullivan, U.S. District Court Eastern District of Missouri Judges Nannette A. Baker and David Noce, St. Louis County Judge Margeret Donnelly and St. Louis Judge Michael Mullen, who all retired in the past year.
Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary R. Russell acted as host, thanked each retired judge for their service to the state and the legal community, throwing in a few lawyer jokes she said ChatGPT had written for her for the occasion.
Not to be outdone by artificial intelligence, Draper noted during his remarks that the difference between a Supreme Court judge and God is that God doesn’t think he’s a Supreme Court judge.
