Sweeney was first hired by a private equity firm to facilitate its bid on a lease for the St. Louis Lambert International Airport. He also helped his client Utility Associates secure a contract to provide body cameras to St. Louis police. Verizon is also on his current list of clients.
Sweeney earned his law degree from Saint Louis University in 2004. He worked as an associate at McGlynn and Luther for two years before serving as general counsel to the president of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen.
He stepped up as chief legal counsel for the board starting in 2008 for about seven years. In the role, he drafted ordinances, counseled government employees on budgetary issues and advised employees on legal issues. He practiced for a time at Lathrop & Gage before joining his current firm in 2017.
