Rich AuBuchon has been a major behind-the-scenes force in getting a series of changes to Missouri’s tort laws onto the governor’s desk in recent years.
AuBuchon, who lobbies for the Missouri Civil Justice Reform Coalition and other business organizations, has helped with bills that range from an overhaul of the state’s expert witness standards to liability protections for employers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of those bills, vociferously opposed by Democrats, have been painstakingly negotiated during late-night sessions with.
AuBuchon previously served as chief of staff to Lt. Governor Peter D. Kinder, as a senior staff member for Gov. Matt Blunt and chief counsel for the Office of Administration. Before opening his own lobbying shop, he was general counsel for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was counsel with Polsinelli.
His wife, Betsy AuBuchon, is clerk of the Missouri Supreme Court and a former lobbyist herself. He earned his law degree in 2001 from the University of Tulsa.
