Carmody MacDonald, St. Louis

Jerry Carmody has been tapped to represent Anheuser-Busch, the Archdiocese in St. Louis, Target, the NFL—and to serve as special prosecutor.

Jerry Carmody’s past life as a St. Louis city assistant circuit attorney made him an ideal choice for special prosecutor after perjury allegations emerged in the 2018 investigation of former Gov. Eric Greitens.

Carmody served in the city as lead prosecutor for more than 30 jury trials. Today he’s a principal at Carmody MacDonald, where his defense practice is focused on commercial, real estate and employment litigation.

A founding member of the Missouri Coalition for the Right to Counsel, Carmody is invested in efforts to improve Missouri justice. He also previously served on the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission, which nominates judges to the state appellate courts and Supreme Court, and the Missouri Supreme Court’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Fairness.

A fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers, Carmody earned his law degree from Saint Louis University in 1975.

In 2015, Carmody represented Anheuser-Busch against discrimination claims from two women who had worked as security guards, who agreed to a confidential settlement after the defense attempted to move the case to federal court and compel arbitration.

In 2017, Missouri Lawyers Media gave Carmody and his daughter, Ryann Carmody, the Legal Champions Award for successfully defending a Catholic priest accused on child sex abuse.

In 2021, Carmody represented the NFL in a mediated $790 million settlement with the St. Louis City, the surrounding county and the Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority.
