Griggs Injury Law, Kansas City

L. Annette GriggsAnnette Griggs has a track record of winning cases that other attorneys turn down over their complexity.

Griggs was appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Missouri Senate as a voting member of Missouri’s Brain Injury Advisory Council. She also serves on the Brain Injury Association of Missouri and on the board of governors for the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.

It’s no surprise that Griggs, a Litigation Practitioner Award winner in the 2021 Women’s Justice Awards, is also passionate about representing people with traumatic brain injuries. She once took on and won a complex brain injury case that three other attorneys had turned down.

Another difficult case that Griggs took to the Missouri Supreme Court, partnering with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, resulted in a 2016 win for her client, a woman whose husband had been fatally shot by her adult daughter. The case also broadened the tort of negligent entrustment to include a cause of action against gun shops who knowingly sell guns to people with high-risk illnesses, which has been used in other states.

Griggs is a volunteer attorney with Legal Aid of Western Missouri. Along with her pro bono work, she mentors younger female attorneys in the Denise Henning Connections Program with the Association for Women Lawyers Foundation. She earned her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
