Among his accomplishments is an $80 million settlement in 2016 with Jackson County and a company alleged to have exposed workers to asbestos while renovating the county courthouse in the 1980s. The settlement covers medical monitoring for signs of mesothelioma in the plaintiffs.
In 2011, he obtained a related $10 million settlement for the survivors of a Jackson County judicial assistant who died at age 56 as a result of asbestos exposure.
Other victories include a $6.3 million verdict in 2017 for a man injured in a collision of a truck and a farm tractor, resulting in an award of $3.5 million after comparative fault and damage caps.
Accurso is the longtime chair of the American Association for Justice’s gas, fire and explosions litigation group and has more than 20 years of experience on the Missouri Association of Trial Attorney’s board of governors. He is a 1990 recipient of the Lon O. Hocker Award.
He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981.
