After several years in the real estate practice group at Husch Blackwell, Matt Hoffman’s most active client, MRP Capital Group, offered him the opportunity to join their team and build a legal department from the ground up in May 2022.

Hoffman said, “Ultimately, the opportunity was too interesting to pass up.” He knew he would gain tremendous experience and have an opportunity to contribute on both the legal and business sides of the enterprise.

His in-house role differs greatly from his law firm experience. While much of the actual legal work is the same, the lens he applies to each transaction is necessarily different. He is now acutely aware of how individual deal points will impact the company’s bottom line or the day-to-day operations of his colleagues. He also spends significantly more time dealing with pure business issues and strategy.

Hoffman focuses on ensuring everyone at the company takes risk considerations into account while helping navigate challenging market and economic trends affecting real estate investment firms.
