Gov. is ordering Missouri legislators back to the Capitol to help a Kansas City-area Ford Motor Co. factory.

The governor wants lawmakers to approve up to $100 million in tax incentives over 10 years for the plant. The special session is to begin at noon on Thursday.

Lawmakers also will consider changes to Missouri’s employee retirement system to pay for the tax incentives. Nixon said Friday the incentives are needed to compete for future auto jobs.

Ford’s Claycomo plant employs about 3,700 people. It produces the Ford F-150 pickup truck, the Ford Escape and the Mercury Mariner.

The Mariner will be discontinued later this year, and workers fear the plant will stop making the Escape when the model year ends.
