Cordes recognized for human rights work

Cynthia CordesCynthia L. Cordes, a partner at Husch Blackwell, has been honored for her human rights work.

Cordes received the Judge Arnold Krekel Trailblazer Award from the Missouri Commission on Human Rights on Nov. 4 for her efforts to combat human trafficking.

Upon joining Husch in 2013, she launched a legal clinic that offers free legal representation to victims of human trafficking. Missouri Lawyers Weekly honored Cordes as its Lawyer of the Year in 2014 for her work.

The Krekel award honors individuals or organizations that show passion for civil rights and equal justice. The award’s namesake was an ardent abolitionist.

The award was presented at the Fifth Annual Missouri Human Rights Conference in Kansas City. Also honored were longtime Kansas City community figures Alvin Sykes and Joanne M. Collins, as well as the Lee’s Summit Human Relations Commission.
