Finalists named for St. Louis associate vacancy

The 22nd Circuit Judicial Commission has picked three finalists for an associate circuit judge vacancy in St. Louis.

Steven J. Capizzi, Michael J. Colona and Craig K. Higgins were selected from among 29 applicants interviewed May 15-16. Gov. Mike Parson has 60 days to fill the vacancy left by Judge Calea Stovall-Reid’s elevation to the circuit bench.

Capizzi is the director of the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners. He earned his law degree from Saint Louis University in 2003.

Colona, a former state lawmaker, is with Colona & Gentle. He earned his law degree from Saint Louis University in 1995.

Higgins is with the St. Louis City Counselor’s Office. He earned his law degree from Drake University in 1991.

The five-member commission said Capizzi and Higgins received five votes, while Colona received three votes.
