What advice do you have for young lawyers?

You should find a job with a firm or solo practice attorney that will spend the time to train you on how to be a practicing attorney. Just because you passed the bar does not mean you know how to handle a case from start to trial. It will take years to learn how to be an effective/efficient attorney, and the longer you can learn from a seasoned attorney, the better. By doing this, you will develop a set of skills that you will take with you for the rest of your career.

What is the best career advice you have received?

I need to spend the time to invest in myself. Meaning, I needed to attend every deposition, hearing, mediation and trial I could. While I could not bill for these tasks, I was able to see the techniques and strategies used by talented attorneys that I have been able to use.

What has been your favorite moment as an attorney?

Watching attorneys I have assisted in their training succeed on their own.
