2023 Up & Coming Awards: Corey Kilburn, 40
Staff Report//October 11, 2023//
Founding Partner, Roundtable Legal: Law Office of Corey Kilburn

Law School: University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law
Corey Kilburn started his firm, Roundtable Legal just over four years ago and says the experience and joy of opening his own law firm has been a favorite moment in his journey.
“Another spotlight recently has been working as Counsel for the locally written, directed, and produced theatrical production of The Milly Project and helping bring it from the stage all the way to the screen as a feature film,” he says, adding that grit and determination are his driving force.
“I come from a low socio-economic background and have had to face adversity in life,” he says. “The key to who I am today is based on the ability to demonstrate passion and perseverance toward goals, objectives, and dreams, despite being confronted with distractions or obstacles.”
What advice do you have for young lawyers?
Don’t underestimate your ability to contribute and make a difference for those around you.
What is something that would surprise people about you?
I not only represent clients in the art and entertainment fields, but I also participate in those fields as well. I am sometimes an actor on stage or screen and am sometimes behind the scenes working as a choreographer for various productions.
What is the best career advice you have received?
Never be the smartest person in the room. Everyone knows something that you don’t. Listen well. Everyone has had experiences that you haven’t. In turn, offer your wisdom and experiences to others. Understand and use the resources around you and you will be a resource to others.
What is your favorite thing to do away from work?
I love all things art and entertainment-oriented. I attend a variety of shows and exhibitions. I am also an avid fantasy football fan and a collector of pop culture memorabilia.
What is your biggest accomplishment this year?
Growth is always a proud accomplishment and as a firm we are growing and adding more staff and associates. I recently received a community award from The Landers Theatre for being a “Champion for The Arts”.
