2022 Up & Coming Awards: Colin McClain, 37

Shareholder, Humphrey, Farrington and McClain, Independence

Colin McClainPractice Area:  Personal Injury.

Law School: University of Missouri-Kansas City.

During Colin McClain’s growing up years, his parents made such a great impression on him, he was determined to walk in their footsteps, no matter which path he chose.

Influenced by his father’s prowess in the courtroom, McClain followed him into law.

“I grew up watching my dad try cases,” he writes. “He’s the best trial lawyer I’ve ever seen and made me want to be a litigator.”

Not only did McClain become a lawyer, he also practices with his father every day, and claims that’s the best part of his job. And that’s not all. Law is in the family’s DNA. Out of eight family members, six are lawyers.

McClain says if he had not become a lawyer, he might have become a restauranteur. His parents own a restaurant group in Independence, and he recalls great times helping them in their business.

“I grew up working in my parents’ restaurants doing everything from washing dishes to cooking and loved every minute of it,” he writes.
