Tim Aylward is credited with a series of influential cases involving Missouri’s noneconomic damage caps in medical malpractice suits.

In 1992, he won a Missouri Supreme Court case affirming the cap in place at the time. In 2012, he won another Supreme Court case holding that lawmakers could enforce the cap in medical negligence cases involving wrongful death, though a different case that year struck down an updated version of the cap as unconstitutional.

After a new cap was passed in 2015, Aylward won a ruling in 2021 that upheld its constitutionality.
