Leland Shurin, a one-time nominee to the federal bench, served alongside law partner and fellow POWER honoree Richard Lombardo as a special deputy liquidator of General American Mutual Holding Co. after its 1999 collapse. They recovered more than $250 million on behalf of the receivership and policyholders.
Shurin is a former managing partner of Shaffer Lombardo Shurin, and he is now self-employed practicing in both Kansas City, Missouri and Phoenix, Arizona. He’s become one of Kansas City’s top mediators in high-stakes cases. Shurin has been an American Arbitration Association arbitrator panel member since 1979, serving on hundreds of arbitration cases, both private and through the AAA.
