Bank-robbing lawyer Warren Gladders disbarred

Warren Gladders, the 65-year-old former attorney sentenced to a total of 70 years for robbing a bank and shooting at a highway patrol officer, was disbarred Tuesday.

Gladders pleaded guilty in July to crimes including first-degree assault of an officer, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon in connection to three bank robberies that happened in the summer of 2013. Gladders’ last robbery, in Warren County, ended in a shoot-out with a highway patrol trooper. The trooper was hit but protected by a bullet-proof vest.

In August, the Missouri Supreme Court suspended Gladders’ law license, which he received in 1976.

U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson in October sentenced Gladders to 293 months in prison, and later in the month Circuit Judge Wesley Dalton sentenced Gladders to 45 years, to be served consecutively with his federal sentence.

On Nov. 3, the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Council filed a motion for Gladders to be disbarred. The Missouri Supreme Court granted the motion in a Nov. 19 order.
