Office Manager: Office Manager, SWMW Law
When St. Louis-based SWMW Law was founded 10 years ago, Leslie McCray followed one of the founding partners from another firm. At the time she was a paralegal, but her willingness to take on any challenge made her an obvious choice to manage the office as the firm grew.
McCray now handles anything and everything at the firm, with a strategy of “tackle one day at a time no matter what the obstacles I face that day — to stay true to my hard work ethic.”
Her nominator praised not only her organizational talents but also her infectious optimism.
“She is the personified version of the voice in your head that tells you, ‘You’ve got this. You can do this,’” he wrote. “More so than anyone else in our office, Leslie is the glue that keeps our firm together.”
What led you to choose a career in the legal field?
I always knew I wanted to be in a position where I could actively make a difference in others’ lives. This firm has allowed me to “fight the good fight” for our clients. I am able to see this difference each day when hearing from clients who express their gratitude in the work we do for each and every one of them.
What is the best part of your job?
Undoubtedly, my partners and co-workers are the best part of my job. We all work hard for the same cause. The atmosphere here at the firm is something like no other I’ve ever worked in — there’s a real sense of family and I take pride in being a part of that. I value the trust and flexibility that our partners have given me over the years and recognize that isn’t something that comes easily.
What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t settle — continue to work hard for what you want and use your strengths to get there.
What is something that would surprise people about you?
I have a twin sister who is my best friend!
