Ja'Nelle L. Herring

Asbestos Trust Manager

SWMW Law

St. Louis

Ja’nelle Herring found her way to the legal field through an opportunity in family law that arose while she was working in the service industry — a natural fit, she said, for someone who has always had a heart for people. She now manages a high-volume caseload focused on asbestos personal injury claims, working to secure settlement compensation from more than 60 asbestos trust funds on behalf of clients diagnosed with mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Herring trains, mentors and manages all department hires on firm policies and protocols, reviews work for accuracy and collaborates with trust funds to resolve deficiencies that could delay client compensation. She also provides administrative support for her department partner and member.

One of her defining accomplishments was guiding her team through cross-functional change and implementation during the COVID pandemic. She describes the best part of her work simply: the people. The advice she lives by: “Be the change you want to see.”
