Judge Lewis W. Clymer

Judge Lewis W. Clymer of Kansas City died of heart failure Aug. 13 at the age of 90. He was the first African-American appointed to the Jackson County Circuit Court, where he served for 10 years. Clymer retired in 1980.
Clymer served as Jackson County assistant prosecuting attorney from 1948 to 1952 and as an assistant attorney general from 1953 to 1960. He was appointed as a municipal court judge in 1960 and was re-elected in 1967 for a four-year term. Clymer received his undergraduate and law degrees from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
