Lawyers in the news – Feb. 13

■ Charles Steib, at the Law Firm of Charles Steib in Des Peres, was elected as chairman of the board of directors of the Big Game Hunters Club of St. Louis. The club is an organization of hunters that raises money for the education of youth and women in hunting and fishing. Steib is a solo practitioner who focuses on civil trial work.

■ The Clayton law firm of Bauer Soule Garnholz Albin announced the opening of a St. Charles office at 118 N. Second St., Suite 300. The firm focuses on family law, providing mediation and collaborative law options along with traditional litigation. The firm also handles estate planning, probate and small business matters. The law firm also announced that partner Ann Bauer has been accepted into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The AAML’s mission is to provide leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law.

■ Richard Walsh Jr. was named chairman of the litigation department of Lewis, Rice & Fingersh. Walsh joined the firm in 1983 and is a member of its management committee. Walsh practices primarily in complex commercial litigation, including intellectual property, antitrust and securities litigation.

■ Carl Markus joined Paule, Camazine & Blumenthal as a partner. He advises individuals and business owners in all aspects of estate and asset-protection planning. Markus also advises business owners and businesses on the creation and structuring of business entities and on-going legal matters. He previously practiced law at Lashly & Baer.

■ Stinson Morrison Hecker announced that Timothy Swanson joined the firm’s Kansas City office. He joins the bankruptcy and creditors’ rights division as an associate. He has experience representing secured mortgage lenders in Chapter 11 cases, commercial foreclosures and bankruptcy adversary proceedings. He previously worked for the Chicago-based firm of Deutsch, Levy & Engel. Shortly after law school, he clerked for the Kansas Corporation Commission’s litigation division in Topeka, Kan.

■ Glenn Davis, chair of Gallop’s litigation department, was elected vice chair of the Academy of Antitrust Law of the Litigation Counsel of America. The Litigation Counsel of America is a trial lawyer honorary society, with membership limited to 3,500 fellows. The Academy of Antitrust Law will facilitate advanced study of antitrust law and economic issues, provide a unique forum for members to interact and exchange best practices and offer opportunities for scholarly writing. Additionally, Eric Peterson, co-chair of the business bankruptcy practice group at Gallop, was elected to the board of directors of the Turnaround Management Association -Missouri Chapter. The Turnaround Management Association is the only international non-profit association dedicated to corporate renewal and turnaround management

■ James Hartenbach, a retired St. Louis County Circuit Court judge, and Richard Hunsaker, a partner with Heyl Royster in Belleville, Ill., joined the mediation panel at United States Arbitration & Mediation Midwest Inc. USA&M is an Alternative Dispute Resolution administrator providing a skilled panel of mediators and arbitrators to the Midwest legal, business and insurance community.

■ Jeffrey Schmitt, a principal at Danna McKitrick, was appointed head of the firm’s title litigation practice. Schmitt will lead the practice in its representation of clients including national title insurance underwriters and their insured, resolving title policy claims and disputes that preclude title transfer or cloud true ownership.
