Staff Report//March 28, 2022//
Husch Blackwell, St. Louis
Greg Minana’s cases defending health care providers splash across our top annual defense wins.
In his defense of a doctor and anesthesiology group who was blamed for a woman’s death during surgery in 2021, Minana won over a federal jury in St. Louis who agreed that the defendants had properly cleared the patient for surgery.
In 2019, a St. Louis County jury rejected a claim for a woman’s death after surgery to fix her pacemaker. And in 2018, a Cape Girardeau County jury sided with a group of medical providers who faced allegations of negligently injuring a man’s esophagus following bariatric surgery with the help of Minana. Missouri Lawyers Media recognized it as the second-largest defense win reported that year.
Minana previously chaired the firm’s products liability department. In addition to his wins in medical malpractice, Minana defends health care entities’ business interests, which have included recovering damages from an insurer through arbitration and pursuing federal claims of unfair business practices.
In 2014, Minana defended Washington University Medical Center and other entities against claims that the hospital’s sign in the median of Kingshighway in St. Louis blocked a motorcyclist’s view and led to a crash. Multiple involved groups settled the case for a total of $8.25 million.
Minana earned his law degree from the University of Missouri in 1990.
