Jay Simpson is recognized for developing creative tax planning strategies that provide meaningful financial benefits to clients and successfully navigating disputes with various taxing authorities.
Simpson’s notable achievements include representing a large wireless carrier before the Kansas Supreme Court approximately 30 years ago, successfully arguing that his client was not a “public utility” for Kansas property tax purposes. The court agreed, reversing a prior ruling by the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals in what was considered a noteworthy decision at the time.
His professional leadership includes serving as president of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation and chair of the Tax Committee of Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. He also served as a founding chair of the Military Matters program, which provides pro bono legal assistance to veterans and active military members.
