John Maxwell Carnahan III represents the third generation in his family’s legal legacy, following his grandfather who became one of the first tax attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service after the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment in 1913, and his father who practiced tax and estate planning law for over 50 years.

Carnahan earned his Master of Laws in taxation from the University of Miami in 1975. His leadership includes serving as president of the Missouri Bar Section of Taxation, fellow of the American College of Tax Council and regent of its governing board. He served on the University of Missouri System board of curators from 2004 to 2010 and has been an instructor with Missouri Bar continuing education programs on estate and business tax planning.
