Richard Schnake clerked for a Missouri Supreme Court judge before entering private practice in 1982, where he developed a referral practice in appeals. Schnake said he enjoys “trying to convince three smart judges or seven smart judges that another smart judge made a mistake.”

He has handled about 300 appeals in state and federal appellate courts. In 1993, he represented grandparents in Herndon v. Tuhey, the first challenge to Missouri’s grandparent visitation statute.

Schnake noted he developed his skills through serving on three Missouri Supreme Court committees, publishing and speaking.

He recently received the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association’s Distinguished Attorney Award.
