A woman injured on a Kansas City-area highway reached a $215,000 settlement with the at-fault driver, according to her attorney.

Laurie Del Percio of The Horn Law Firm in Independence said her client was traveling eastbound on Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit on Feb. 1, 2022, when she was rear-ended by the defendant’s truck. She was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital complaining of head, neck and abdominal pain.

Her injuries were not life threatening, so she was discharged and instructed to follow up with a health care provider. Her severe abdominal pain sent her back to the emergency room, where she was given intravenous pain medications after an ultrasound of her right lower quadrant was indeterminate.

Due to ongoing pain in her head, neck and back, the plaintiff underwent chiropractic care. Del Percio said she also suffered “unrelenting” headaches and concussion symptoms, so a concussion specialist referred her to vestibular therapy and prescribed prism glasses.

Del Percio said a life care plan projecting the future costs of care such as prism glasses was key in reaching a successful settlement.
