Matthew Woods has built a career spanning the full arc of modern legal practice — from the era of the Selectric typewriter, onion skin paper and white-out to today’s age of artificial intelligence. Throughout that journey, he has come to understand that the anxiety common to the work does not fully disappear, but that hard work, gratitude and treating people and matters with a high degree of respect and conviction will see a lawyer through.
He leads by example and prizes kindness and respect as the foundation of how he engages with colleagues and clients each day. The accomplishment he holds dearest is his son’s decision to join him in the practice of law — a milestone he credits in part to fatherhood, while making clear his son did all the rest. He advises young attorneys to work hard, take pride in their work and remain respectful and professional throughout their careers, and said, “Try to smell the roses along the way.”
