Attorney, Lashly & Baer

St. Louis

Terrance Good has found satisfaction on two fronts. Within the profession, he has held leadership positions in bar organizations and worked on large, complicated cases he describes as absorbing, challenging and rewarding — experiences that pushed him to places he did not know were there. Outside the law, he served as board chair of the Contemporary Art Museum, where he and his colleagues chose the architect, raised the funds and built the museum from the ground up.

Good’s leadership philosophy is rooted in building consensus and a shared vision; once those are established, he has found, everything else follows far more easily. He also believes it does not matter who gets the credit. His core career lesson is not to take anything personally.

He advises young attorneys to follow a principle attributed to John Shepherd and said, “Be interested in more than what’s on your desk,” adding that lawyers have talents that should be put to use for the community.
