Co-Chair, General Liability Litigation Group

Shook, Hardy & Bacon, Kansas City

Rob Adams has built his legal career around the trial of cases, but the relationships forged along the way are what he values most. He has come to understand that the practice of law is fundamentally about building trust — with the court, with the opposing party and with the client — and that having all three in place is the foundation of a well-lived legal career. He leads by example, treating everyone involved in a matter — his own team, the court’s team and the opposing party’s team — with equal respect and dignity.

Looking back, he takes the greatest pride in the friendships he has developed on both sides of the “v.” as well as with colleagues throughout his career. He noted that with those relationships of trust in place, as he put it, “you sleep better at night.” He advises young attorneys that reputation follows a lawyer everywhere, and to work hard and treat everyone with respect, dignity and kindness.
