Partner, Haar & Woods

St. Louis

Pete Woods has spent nearly 29 years helping build and sustain the firm he co-founded, guided throughout by a commitment to serving clients and the legal community to the best of his abilities.

Looking back on his career, Woods has witnessed the legal profession’s sweeping transformation through technology. Where attorneys once waited on transcription, physical retyping and postal mail, computers and electronic communication reshaped the pace and texture of practice entirely. He also values what he calls “fraternity” — the trust and civility that grew from close relationships among attorneys and judges in smaller legal communities, which he said produced better outcomes for clients and made the work more rewarding.

Woods approaches leadership by treating peers and staff alike with honor, honesty and respect, and by modeling the work ethic he expects from others.

For young attorneys, he offered a pointed reminder: “A case well-settled is better than a case well-tried,” he said, adding that lawyers can only control their own efforts — never the final result.
