Shareholder, Kansas City

Jeffrey Kennard has practiced construction law for more than 30 years, having been admitted in Kansas in 1994 and Missouri in 1995. His path to the field was unplanned — as a young associate at Blackwell Sanders, Kennard was drawn into a large construction dispute in Guymon, Oklahoma, and quickly found his calling. He said: “I did not choose construction law; it chose me.”

Kennard has built a practice centered on practical, common-sense counsel aimed at helping clients achieve their goals as simply and cost-effectively as possible. Among his most challenging matters was a grueling arbitration in Erie, Pennsylvania — weeks of long hearing days in heavy snow — which he described as the most challenging and rewarding experience of his career. He prevailed.

Kennard also prioritizes mentoring young lawyers through their first courtroom experiences. He co-founded and served as the initial president of the Construction Law Section of the Kansas Bar Association and has served as an officer of the KCMBA Construction Law Committee.
