Founder, Leawood, Kansas

Jim Bartimus has represented plaintiffs in complex medical malpractice and pharmaceutical cases nationwide since founding his firm in 1977. Among his landmark matters, he argued a Jackson County wrongful death case before the Missouri Supreme Court, which reversed its standing decision 7-0 to recognize wrongful death for a viable fetus — reshaping Missouri law.

In California, he tried one of the country’s first organ transplant malpractice cases, leading to worldwide changes in donor disease screening. He also represented Missouri in tobacco litigation and served as lead counsel for Kansas in Medicare fraud cases.

Bartimus is a past president of MATA and the International Society of Barristers.
